Fon of Nso Chronicles Anglophone Crisis in New Book Calling for Reconciliation and Peace

A new 170-page testimony by His Royal Majesty the Fon of Nso offers a deeply personal reflection on the Anglophone crisis, blending historical memory, cultural transition, and a strong appeal for forgiveness and national reconciliation in Cameroon.

Media professionals gathered in Yaoundé on June 17, 2026, for a press café ahead of the official launch of a landmark publication titled “The Fon of Nso and the Anglophone Crisis: A Testimony for Reconciliation and Peace.” The book is presented as both a historical record and a peacebuilding instrument, aimed at strengthening dialogue within the Nso community and across Cameroon.
The publication, which spans about 170 pages, retraces key moments from the enthronement of the Fon of Nso to the emergence and escalation of the Anglophone crisis. It also documents the hardships endured by the monarch during this period, while highlighting messages of solidarity from traditional leaders across Bui Division and beyond.

According to co-editor Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine, the project was initially met with hesitation by the Fon, who feared reopening wounds linked to the conflict and questioned the shift from oral tradition to written testimony. He later agreed after being persuaded that documenting his experience was necessary to correct distortions and preserve historical truth for future generations.
Editors involved in the work explained that the book was designed to complement, not replace, Nso’s oral heritage. They emphasized its role in countering misinformation and ensuring that the history of the crisis is preserved through firsthand testimony grounded in truth, integrity, and cultural continuity.
The narrative is also framed as a deeply personal act of reconciliation. The Fon’s reflections emphasize forgiveness, humanity, and restraint in the face of suffering, insisting that even the most painful conflicts must not erase shared values or the possibility of peace.
During the press café, the Fon’s representative, Yaah Gladys Viban, reiterated his commitment to unity and dialogue, urging communities to “journey within themselves” in order to rebuild trust and social cohesion. Her message underscored the publication’s broader aim of fostering healing across divisions.

Co-editor Nsaibirni Warren Lee further noted that the book forms part of a wider Community Dialogue Initiative that will engage Nso sons and daughters in Cameroon and the diaspora. The process is expected to culminate in Nto’ Nso, where a traditional reconciliation ritual will symbolize collective renewal and restored harmony.
The book concludes with a royal call for peace and reconciliation, reaffirming the Fon’s longstanding mandate to promote unity and development in Nso. As preparations continue for the official launch scheduled for June 25, 2026, organizers express hope that the publication will serve as a catalyst for reflection, forgiveness, and sustained peace in Cameroon.
