Golden Jubilee of GBHS Yaoundé: Half a Century of Unity and Excellence

The fiftieth anniversary of Government Bilingual High School Yaoundé unfolded as a powerful symbol of memory and projection, bringing together a multitude of generations around the theme of bilingualism and national cohesion. For three days, the institution shone with the fervor of festivities, combining protocol, culture, and reflection.

Presided over by the Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga, the celebrations paid tribute to a school that has stood for fifty years as a true laboratory of linguistic integration and civic formation. Around her gathered administrative authorities, traditional leaders, alumni, and partners, all united by the pride of belonging to an establishment that embodies the spirit of the Republic.

The highlights of the jubilee included prize awards to students who had distinguished themselves through their academic achievements, a colorful cultural program, and solemn moments of remembrance dedicated to former principals and generations that have marked the life of the school. In her address, the Minister expressed warm congratulations to Principal Teddy Tambeagbor and to the alumni association, whose constant support reinforces the ambition of an institution open to modernity.

Beyond commemoration, this golden jubilee was also a time for vision. The « New Generation GBHSY » program was presented, identifying twenty-four priority projects to be carried out in the coming years. From the rehabilitation of infrastructures to the creation of new educational facilities, each initiative embodies the will to prepare the school for the challenges of the twenty-first century.

The celebrations concluded with a gala evening where the voices of the past blended with the hopes of the future. More than ever, the 213,000 alumni scattered across the world were invited to strengthen their ties with their alma mater. By reaffirming the values of excellence, unity, and openness, GBHS Yaoundé thus continues to write a story where education is not only knowledge, but also a promise of fraternity and progress.
